A shelving unit comprising: a framework formed by vertical legs (11-14) and sets of horizontal shelf supports (21-24) mounted between the legs (11-14), wherein a set of shelf supports (21-24) defines a peripheral frame for a shelf (20); and a plurality of rectangular panels (30) arranged in a series on at least one set of the shelf supports to form a surface of the shelf (20); characterized in that each of the panels (30) has a longer edge disposed parallel to a shorter edge of the shelf (20); and wherein the shelving unit further comprises at least one vertical element (41, 42) that is a side wall or a door, that is mounted between the shelf supports (21-24) of adjacent shelves (20) and that has its surface formed by a series of panels (30) identical in size to the panels (30) forming the surface of at least one shelf (20).
